Blink-182: Experience The EpicnessI'm a very nostalgic person, thus seeing my favorite childhood band live in concert for the first time was bound to be a rad experience, even if I got food poisoning, barfed on a drunk guy, and got punched in the face by his hostile hxc friends. Well, none of those things happened, and the word "rad" does not begin to describe the night I had seeing Blink-182. In fact, no word in the English language does it justice. I'll go with "epic."
Everyone knows that the best part of any gig is the very second before the band comes out: The smoke has filled the stage, everyone's butts are out of their seats, the lights are off, you're clapping, they're clapping, everyone's clapping like it'll save the world, and your heart is sending adrenaline out by the truckload. (Truckloads of adrenaline in your blood vessels. That's right.) Blink-182 captivated this moment perfectly without drawing it out to an aggravating length: The second they hit the stage, an energy filled the venue. (How does something fill an open-air venue, exactly?) Not just any energy: An electric energy. An excited energy. A nostalgic energy. A bitchin' cool energy. A shut-the-fuck-up-about-the-energy-and-get-on-with-this-review energy.
No really, Mark and Tom were dashing about the stage like they were 17 again (absolutely no Zac Effron pun intended). And Travis was a brilliant lunatic, as always, pounding on those drums like a chimpanzee on crack. These were not grown men with families and responsibilities: These were the kids you remember rocking out to on your CD player when the World Trade Center was still intact. Those were glorious days, and this show did nothing but remind me of them. Their sound was flawless, as was their onstage humor: Tom remarked that a coast guard operative came through his toilet and warned him that if he did not play The Rock Show, great dangers would ensue. No really. He actually said that. Alas, I do not remember the whole set list, or I would share it with you. All I can do is say, go see Blink-182. They will not disappoint you. Why? Because they sound great, look great, make the audience feel great, have great light effects, a great drum solo to break up a great setlist, and they're kind of a great band.
*WTF at all these photos being of Tom *Double WTF at this being the worst "review" of all time. Where's the srs bsns?!
